A professional experience placement provides opportunities for students to enhance and evidence their knowledge and capabilities that support their engagement in a practice setting. The unit includes a group project conducted with the national Big Idea student competition.

Students are expected to either work on a defined project with negotiated outcomes agreed between the placement partner, student and unit coordinator or to work in an organisation as part of an internship program. Lectures on service learning, the reflective journal and the group project support the service learning goals of the unit.

The professional experience placement allows students to integrate discipline knowledge with workplace application. It considers the rise of social entrepreneurship, the shift to a focus on collaboration, and the role of corporate social responsibility, philanthro-capitalism, social finance and impact investing in creating new options for positive social impact.
